Stanley takes fourth for host Comets

GMG’s Chizek scores runner-up medalist honors

CONRAD — BCLUW senior Lane Stanley finished in fourth place in his home Comet Invite on Monday at Oakwood Golf Course with a 5-over-par 40.

Stanley started his round with pars on the first three holes, just missing a birdie putt on the par-5 third hole, but he went double bogey, double bogey, bogey on holes four-through-six before finishing the final three holes with three-straight pars again.

BCLUW as a team placed eighth out of nine full teams in attendance with with a 189. Behind Stanley’s 40 came Ray Callaway with a 48, Tristen Gallentine with a 49 and Kade Pekarek with a 52.

West Marshall was the highest-placing area team by taking third with a 175. Jake Vawter tied for seventh individually for the Trojans with a 42, and he was followed by Conley Petermeier and Kaleb Papenberg with 44s each and Joey Tollefson with a 45.

GMG finished in fourth just one stroke behind West Marshall with a 176. Kamrin Chizek was the meet runner-up after tying for the lead with a 39 and losing to meet medalist Alex Hames from AGWSR in a sudden-death playoff.

Hames also beat teammate Ben Macy in that playoff as well, and the Cougars took the team title with a 163.

After Chizek for the Wolverines was Ryan Hunt and Brayden Peterson, who both shot a 44, and Aaron Fleming with a 49.

East Marshall was seventh as a team with a 185, led by Brayden Fahrni’s fifth-place showing with a 41. Eric Ommen also tied for 10th for the Mustangs with a 43, followed by Seth Freese with a 45 and Ethan Espenscheid with a 56.

North Tama was ninth on the team standings with a 197. Michael Bell was the top finisher for the Redhawks with a 47, while Paden Ketter had a 48 and Aaron Walker and Andrew Lidgett both shot 51s.

Gladbrook-Reinbeck didn’t have enough golfers for a team score, but Tysen Creswell finished with a 50 for the Rebels.
