Reid finds form as MHS routs Fort Dodge

T-R PHOTO BY ANDREW ABADIE - Marshalltown senior Mason Reid tees off on the eighth hole during Tuesday’s CIML Iowa Conference dual meet against Fort Dodge at the American Legion Memorial Golf Course. Reid won medalist honors with a 2-over-par 37 as the Bobcats beat the Dodgers 152-177.

In just his second appearance of the season, Mason Reid led the Marshalltown boys golf team in its 152-177 win over Fort Dodge on Tuesday at the American Legion Memorial Golf Course.

Reid’s 37 was good enough to be the medalist in the Bobcats’ nine-hole dual meet win over their CIML Iowa Conference foe.

“Happy to see Mason Reid put together a solid round,” MHS head coach Lucas Johnson said. “That’s going to do a lot for his confidence and that’s only going to help us team-wise going forward. He’d been struggling on the greens and had 23 putts in his last meet, so to see him only have 14 putts on the night is a huge improvement. He was 3-over through four holes and played the last five holes 1-under, which exemplifies the resilience we want to see out of our players.”

Fellow Bobcats Cole Davis and Grant Greazel shared runner-up honors with a pair of 38s while Colin Schmit recorded a 39 to round out the scoring for Marshalltown.

“To close out the dual meet portion of our season with three straight wins has us trending in the right direction,” Johnson said.

Reid birdied the par-4 fifth and eighth holes.

As for Fort Dodge, the Dodgers did not have any member of their team record a score under 40. Kaleb Anderson led Fort Dodge with a 41. For the rest of the Dodgers, Isaac Hage carded a 42, Gavin Strain shot a 42 and rounding out the scoring was Andrew Alstott who carded a 50.

“We have a quick turnaround heading down to the Ankeny Invitational,” Johnson said. “This is the first multi-team meet we’ve had since getting back to full strength, so we’re looking forward to seeing how we stack up against some of the best squads in the state.”

The Bobcats will travel to the Ankeny Invite today at Otter Creek Golf Course.
