SPORTS SHORTS: Quarterback Club moves to Legends

The Marshalltown Bobcat Quarterback Club has moved locations for this week’s event. Friday’s noon question-and-answer luncheon will be held at Legends American Grill instead of Calvin Rockett Bar & Grill.

Hauser helps Trojan girls in home meet

STATE CENTER — West Marshall freshman Emelia Hauser won the Trojan Cross Country Invite on her home course, clocking in at 22 minutes, 12 seconds to lead the host Trojans to third place in their own meet Tuesday at Lincoln Valley Golf Course.

Hauser finished seven seconds ahead of Baxter’s Kailee Conradi and nine seconds in front of Collins-Maxwell’s Alexis Houge.

Trojan sophomore Lilly Buck was next to cross the finish line for the hosts, placing seventh in 23:08. Peyton Smith (12th, 23:48), Hannah Jovanovich (14th, 24:10) and Avril Sinning (19th, 25:02) completed the team scoring, with Adisyn Young (19th, 25:04) and Natalie Meyer (21st, 25:06) rounded out the West Marshall contingent.

Meskwaki sophomore Shye Johnson placed ninth overall in a time of 23:11, while Sophie Snow was 35th in 28:59. BCLUW was led by Emma Hoover in 22nd place (25:50). Payton Pekarek (25th, 26:19) and Chloe Walters (39th, 33:54) also competed for the Comets.

Comets top locals at Trojan XC Invite

STATE CENTER — The BCLUW boys cross country team had three top-10 finishers en route to a runner-up result at the West Marshall Trojan Invite on Tuesday night at Lincoln Valley Golf Course.

Ruben Montoya led the Comets with a fifth-place finish, crossing the finish line in 18 minutes, 8 seconds. Henry Kaisand wasn’t far behind, placing eighth in 18:49, and Treye Teske took 10th in 19:05. Alex Crompton claimed 23rd in 20:12 and Carter Kemp rounded out BCLUW’s scoring in 29th place (20:54).

Event host West Marshall finished fourth out of seven scoring teams, paced by Nicolas Thompson clocking 17:46 for third place. South Hamilton’s Quinton Grove won the invite in 16:59 and Baxter’s Logan Berg was second in 17:13.

West Marshall also got scoring runs from Cael Kline (17th, 19:33), Will Dawley (21st, 20:00), Bartosz Lacki (25th, 20:24) and Grahm Nason (26th, 20:26).

The quartet of Meskwaki runners was led by Davyin Guevara, as the Warriors’ sophomore scored 19th place in 19:55. Zayton Weineger was 31st in 21:16, Donovan Slick-Driscoll claimed 44th in 22:32 and Banks Rayvon was 51st in 27:01.
