Comets’ season ends against AGWSR
ACKLEY — BCLUW girls’ basketball ended its season trailing from start to finish against AGWSR Tuesday night with a 49-31 loss to the Cougars.
Early on the Comets (15-9) faced a 15-2 deficit, and after clawing back within six points trailed 26-14 at the end of the first half after AGWSR (18-5) had a 6-0 run in the final 90 seconds. It was the only quarter in which BCLUW scored double-digit points.
This was the third meeting of the year between the two teams, and the Cougars were effective in limiting the Comets on offense.
Allison Engle was held to four points, four rebounds and four assists, while the Comets’ leading scorers were Chloe Walters with 10 points and Lizzie Garber with six.
AGWSR was led by Rachel Sicard with 18 points and Grace Finger with 15. Sicard had five offensive rebounds which led to four AGWSR baskets. Those second-chance points were critical in keeping the Cougars out in front.
The Cougars move on to play fourth-ranked Bishop Garrigan in Algona Friday at 7 p.m.
