MANHATTAN, Kan. — The Iowa State women’s basketball team chiseled a 16-point deficit down to five but could get no closer as Kansas State stymied the Cyclones 60-51 in Wednesday’s Big 12 Conference clash at Bramlage Coliseum.

Iowa State trailed by as many as 16 points in the second half after a 13-1 run by Kansas State boosted the Wildcats’ lead to 40-24 during the third quarter. The Cyclones (15-11, 7-8) chipped away and came back to within five, 53-48, on a Morgan Kane 3-pointer with 4:52 left in the game, but Kansas State (14-12, 8-7) managed to close it out.

Three players scored 11 points to lead the Wildcats — Peyton Williams, Ayoka Lee and Angela Harris. Kansas State scored 30 points in the paint to Iowa State’s 20 and won the battle of the boards 38-33.

Ashley Joens had her 15th double-double of the season, leading Iowa State with 17 points and 13 rebounds, but the team lost its third-straight. Rae Johnson added 10 points but the Cyclones couldn’t overcome the loss of Kristin Scott to an injury in the second quarter.

Iowa State returns home to face West Virginia on Saturday at noon.
