Comets clobber Hawks for season’s first win

SULLY — The BCLUW football team picked up its first win of the season on Friday night, blanking Lynnville-Sully 27-0.

The Comets (1-2) were led by senior quarterback Jesse Moore, who ran the ball 15 times for 183 yards and three touchdowns. He scored on sprints of 5, 36 and 41 yards.

Logan Aicher added a 10-yard touchdown run, his first visit to the end zone this season, to cap the Comets’ shutout victory.

“We finally executed on all three phases of the game, it was fun,” said BCLUW head coach Dustin Grothoff. “It was like watching a totally new team out there tonight.”

Nick Curl contributed 66 rushing yards and the Comets attempted only two passes in the game.

Jack Hughes led the BCLUW defense with 13 tackles with a quarterback sack, Kade Pekarek had 11 stops and Noah Gallentine pulled down an interception. Curl also recovered a fumble.

BCLUW hosts Belle Plaine for Homecoming next Friday night in Conrad.
