Mustang netters climb back to .500

BROOKLYN — The East Marshall volleyball team moved to .500 for the season with Thursday’s 3-1 win at BGM, beating the host Bears 23-25, 25-18, 25-19, 25-23.

The Mustangs (4-4) got a team-leading 11 kills and five blocks from senior Clare Veren, while Lizzy Vesely and Jayleigh Pansegrau added seven kills each. Kennedy Wheater chipped in with five kills, while setters Noelia Aguilera and Faith Bandstra had 18 and 12 assists, respectively.

J.J. Westendorf led the East Marshall defense with 25 kills, while Jane Collum came up with 12 more and Camy Weeks had 10. Avery Moore amassed three blocks.

Each of the six Mustangs to serve recorded at least one ace, totaling 18 as a team. Westendorf was 23-for-24 with a team-high five aces, while Collum was 19-for-19 with four aces.

The Mustangs host their own tournament on Saturday in Le Grand.
