SPORTS SHORTS: Neuroth notches 24 in Mustang victory

COLFAX — East Marshall freshman Morgan Neuroth broke onto the scene with 24 points in her varsity girls basketball debut, leading the Mustangs to a season-opening 50-42 victory over Colfax-Mingo on Thursday night.

Neuroth made five 3-pointers for East Marshall (1-0), scoring 10 points in the first half and 14 more after the intermission. Sophomore Delaney Runner and junior Ellie Hull both contributed 11 points.

Abigayle Rawlins led Colfax-Mingo (0-2) with 11 points.

EM/GMG matmen sweep triangular

ACKLEY — The East Marshall/GMG wrestling team went 2-0 in Thursday’s season-opening triangular, defeating AGWSR (51-27) and Hampton-Dumont (40-33).

Five Mustangs went 2-0 in contested matches, including third-ranked Dom Ridout. Ridout pinned AGWSR’s Bo Gerbracht in 2:51 before beating H-D’s Jakyb Kapp by major decision, 17-6, at 132 pounds.

Dane Thompson (145) and Tayte Nauman (220/285) both went 2-0 with two pins, while Tim Benson (160) and Garett Kerber (170) both had a pin and a decision. Tenth-ranked Connor Murty (220/285) and Sam Bandstra (195) both picked up a forfeit to go with their pins.
