MHS boys blank host Hawks, 11-0
ANKENY — The Marshalltown boys’ tennis team saw its seven-match win streak snapped on Tuesday, but the Class 2A No. 7 Bobcats picked up right where they left off on Thursday.
MHS marched to an 11-0 shutout victory over Ankeny, hammering the Hawks with straight-set wins in 10 of 11 contests.
In their second of four-straight road meets, the Bobcats blew through the Hawks (2-6) in convincing fashion. Marshalltown swept the singles competition to secure the dual and finished it off for its fifth 11-0 shutout this season.
Kevin Strand posted the Bobcats’ only love-love shutout, sweeping Owen Somers 6-0, 6-0, in the No. 1 singles spot. Jason Strand, Nic Price, Ethan Benscoter and Gavin Jablonski each had straight-set singles wins as well, while Drake Davis needed three sets to dispatch Kade Somers, 6-4, 6-7 (6-8), (10-4).
The Strand brothers kicked off doubles action with a 6-1, 6-2 victory at No. 1, while Price and Davis won by the same score at No. 2 doubles.
The Bobcats go back out on the road Monday to Grinnell and Tuesday to Fort Dodge.
