Bobcats lose tight match with Wolves
WAUKEE — Marshalltown girls’ tennis fought hard with Waukee Northwest Wednesday afternoon, pushing the Wolves before eventually falling 6-5 on the road.
The Bobcats drop to 3-5 on the season in matches.
In singles play, Rebekah Downs came back from a 6-4 loss in the first set against Mallory Metzger to win set two 6-4 and take a 10-4 victory in the super tiebreaker. Martina Manen Mur took Marshalltown’s second win in singles with a 6-3, 6-7 (7-9), (12-10) victory via a super tiebreaker over Sofia Everett to give the Bobcats a chance heading into doubles play.
Regan Smith faced a difficult matchup and lost 6-0, 6-2 to Hayden Warner. Kennedy Feldman was beaten by Saanvi Nallu 7-5, 6-2, while Klara Ferfecka lost 7-6, 2-6, (10-6) to Davis Schmit. Brianna Hargrave fell 6-3, 6-1 to Greta Paulsen.
In doubles, Smith and Downs lost to Warner and Metzger 6-4, 6-2. Feldman and Ferfecka defeated Nallu and Schmidt 6-3, 6-4 to put the Bobcats on the board. Hargrave and Manen Mur were beaten 6-1, 6-3 by Paulsen and Everett. Emily Diggins and Ava Lucas got on the board with a 6-4, 6-1 win over Anna Giles and Medha Mandumula, while Claire Bohan and Chesni Uhde beat Kendra Metzger and Ashlyn Russell 7-5, 6-1.
Marshalltown is scheduled to play Valley Thursday at 4 p.m. at home, weather pending.
