SPORTS SHORTS: No. 4 Trojans trounce Greene County girls, 79-17

JEFFERSON — Bella Borgos outscored Greene County by herself and the Class 3A No. 4 West Marshall girls’ basketball team trampled the Rams 79-17 in Friday’s Heart of Iowa Conference contest.

Borgos scored a game-high 23 points to go with six steals to lead the Trojans (17-1, 10-1). Keatan Pfantz picked up 16 points, four assists and two steals, and Katy Reyerson compiled 14 points, nine rebounds, nine assists, three steals and two blocked shots.

Audrey Girard and Lauren Solberg chipped in with six points apiece, and Lily Zahnd had eight rebounds. West Marshall led 26-3 after the opening quarter and cruised to the victory.

Esther Van Horn led Greene County (0-16, 0-11) with five points.

West Marshall boys avenge another league loss

JEFFERSON — The West Marshall boys’ basketball team avenged an earlier loss for the second time this week, beating Greene County 66-64 in Friday’s Heart of Iowa Conference rematch.

The Trojans, who lost 68-44 to the Rams the first time around, held off a last-second shot attempt to pick up the conference win.

Owen Siegert had 14 points and five assists to lead West Marshall (8-10, 5-6), which won for the fifth time in its last six games. Peyton Hart had 13 points and eight rebounds, five of which were on the offensive glass, and TJ Schuler had 13 points and seven boards. Andrew Tollefson tallied 11 points and four assists, Preston Reese pitched in with eight points and Grahm Nason added seven.

Richard Daughtery led Greene County (7-9, 6-5) with 22 points.
