HOPEWELL, N.J. — Drake junior Katie Dinnebier and Northern Iowa junior Maya McDermott have both been named to the 2024 Becky Hammon Mid-Major Player of the Year Award watch list.

The pair of guards from the Missouri Valley Conference are two of 25 mid-major stars selected to the watch list. In January, the 15-player midseason watch list will be announced, followed by 10 semifinalists named in February. The five finalists will be announced in early March, with the winner announced around the Final Four.

Dinnebier, a Waukee native, averaged nearly 12 points and six assists per contest last season while adding three rebounds and two steals from the point guard position.

McDermott, a Johnston native, averaged 14.7 points last season while also tallying 2.5 rebounds and 3.5 assists per game.

Named to the MVC’s Preseason First Team this week after Second Team honors last year, McDermott also earned both MVC Honor Roll distinction as well as College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District honors.

Hammon was a three-time All-American during her career at Colorado State and led the Rams to the Sweet 16 in 1999.
