Henson helps Bobcat girls drub Dodgers

FORT DODGE — Marshalltown junior Natalie Henson broke par in the first meet of the season and the Bobcat girls’ golf team dunked Fort Dodge 183-229 in Monday’s opener at Fort Dodge Country Club.

Henson had a pair of birdies and a bogey during her medalist round of 1-under-par 34, leading the Bobcats to a comfortable victory in their season debut. Gaby Estabrook was next in with her runner-up round of 44.

“Natlie Henson played steady golf and was able to get up-and-down quite a few times to save par,” said MHS head coach Lucas Johnson. “She only had 14 putts, which given the undulating greens at Fort Dodge is an impressive number.”

Harper Wilson contributed a 47 and Hallie Kuhlers contributed a 58 to complete the Bobcats’ team scoring. Emma Clawson (62) and Kenedy Lammert (68) also competed for the MHS varsity, while Hanna Osgood (54) had a strong start for the junior varsity.

“We’ve got plenty to work on, especially from 100 yards and in, but it’s always good to get the first meet in the books and start off with a win,” Johnson said.”

Braxtyn Dencklau led Fort Dodge with a 49.

Marshalltown hosts Ames in today’s 3:30 p.m. home opener at Elmwood Country Club.
