SPORTS SHORTS: Comets advance to regional girls golf finals

WATERLOO — The BCLUW girls’ golf team won the team title at the Class 1A Region 3C meet hosted Friday by Waterloo Columbus at South Hills Golf Course.

The Comets shot a 400 in windy conditions and finished well ahead of runner-up AGWSR (418) as only five of nine teams in attendance fielded full squads.

BCLUW was led by Leah McEwen, who shot a 94 and finished in third place after a cardback gave Waterloo Christian’s Ava Rice the runner-up honors. Emersyn Knudsvig of Columbus captured medalist honors with a 93.

Gracie Andrews came in fourth overall for the Comets, carding a 97. Jaya Beeghly added a 104, and both Ainsley Geelhart and Marissa Schnathorst shot 105 to contribute to the Comets’ final team score. Delaney Legg added a 113.

Gladbrook-Reinbeck’s Avery Bower shot a 117 and Piper Evans finished at 138.

The Comets advance to the Region 3 final on Wednesday at Highland Park Golf Course in Mason City.

Mustangs’ Ryan moves into 2A regionals

STORY CITY — The East Marshall girls’ golf team was unable to advance in its entirety, but Delaney Ryan is moving on for the Mustangs.

Ryan finished in sixth place in the individual standings at Friday’s Class 2A Region 4A meet at River Bend Golf Course, shooting a 90 to advance to next Wednesday’s Region 4 finals at Lincoln Valley Golf Course in State Center.

The top six individuals advance to the next round.

Scoring rounds for East Marshall included Tori Mauseth’s 117, Clara Crouse’s 128, and Hayliee VerSteegh’s 129.

Roland-Story won the team title with 341, with Carroll Kuemper (385) and Van Meter (390) also advancing. East Marshall totaled a 464.
