Two Hawkeyes tabbed for watch lists
IOWA CITY — University of Iowa senior Logan Jones and junior Zach Ortwerth were named to the Rimington Trophy and John Mackey Award watch lists, respectively, on Friday. The Rimington Trophy is awarded annually to the nation’s top center, while the Mackey Award is presented to the country’s most outstanding tight end.
Jones was previously tabbed for the Outland Trophy Watch List earlier this month, presented to the top offensive lineman in the country. The Council Bluffs native started 12 games as a junior and was a first-team all-Big Ten Conference selection and an honorable mention All-American by Phil Steele in 2024. Jones anchored an offensive line that allowed just 17 sacks and helped Iowa rush for 2,564 yards, the most since 2002.
Ortwerth played in all 13 games a season ago, while logging four starts. He had 11 catches for 133 yards with a career-high 66 yards in a 42-10 win over Wisconsin in 2024. Iowa has had two previous winners of the Mackey Award: Dallas Clark in 2002 and T.J. Hockenson in 2018.
