SPORTS SHORTS: Redhawks rock Warhawks to reach regional final

TRAER — The third-ranked North Tama volleyball team mowed down North Mahaska 3-0 in Monday’s Class 1A Region 3 semifinal contest, winning 25-18, 25-9, 25-22.

Redhawk senior outside hitter Kruiz Ewoldt tallied a team-leading 18 kills on 25 swings with just two errors, charting a .640 attack efficiency. Alaney Sienknecht added 10 kills and Cayleigh Heller chipped in four.

Isabelle Gropper finished with 16 assists and Heller had 12 more.

Sienknecht and Kahlia Even both had two blocks to lead North Tama (27-13), while Addison Hochstetler finished with 16 digs. Hochstetler also served 12-for-14 with a team-leading three aces. Haydn Wilson was 16-for-17 while Gropper went 14-for-14 with an ace.

Nataliya Linder led North Mahaska (16-10) with 11 kills and one block.

MCC basketball hosting free youth clinic, game ticket

The Marshalltown Community College basketball teams are hosting a free Youth Basketball Clinic on Tuesday, Nov. 11, at the Student Activity Center.

The free clinic runs from 5:30-6:15 p.m. and is open to boys and girls in grades K-4, but is limited to 50 children. Interested participants are required to register online at https://marshalltown.prestosports.com/sports/mbkb/2025-26/Youth_Clinic.

Participants will learn fundamental basketball skills from MCC players and coaches in a fun and engaging environment, and all campers will be given free admission for that evening’s MCC men’s basketball game against the Central College junior varsity at 7 p.m. Campers will also receive a free hot dog and drink during the game.

MCC hosting open batting practice for softball players

Marshalltown Community College is conducting free open hitting sessions for all local high school softball players as conducted by new MCC head softball coach Dave Hartman.

Two open hitting sessions remain on Wednesday, Nov. 5, and Wednesday, Nov. 12, from 7-8:30 p.m. inside the Babe Harder indoor training facility. This initiative provides an opportunity for high school players to get extra swings and prepare for their upcoming seasons. Coaches are encouraged to attend as well.

“We are thrilled to open our doors to the talented high school softball players in our community and nearby communities,” said Hartman. “This is a fantastic chance for them to stay ahead of the competition, have some fun, and experience our excellent indoor facility. We hope to see a great turnout this fall!”
