Cyclones score all-Big 12 honors
AMES — The Iowa State football team was well represented as the Big 12 announced its all-conference teams.
The Cyclones placed three players on the second and third teams, while another eight players were recognized as honorable mention.
Running back Carson Hansen, tight end Benjamin Brahmer and return specialist Aiden Flora all were named to the second team.
Hansen rushed for 952 yards despite missing one game, finishing second among Big 12 players with a 96.4 yard per game average against conference foes. He rushed for 100 yards in six games, including five-straight to end the season.
Brahmer led the Cyclones with 37 receptions and six touchdown catches while finishing second with 446 receiving yards. His six touchdown receptions are fifth-most nationally and first among Big 12 tight ends.
Flora has been one of the Big 12’s top threats in the return game, both in the punt and kickoff game. He averaged 26.1 yards on eight punt returns, including a 75-yard touchdown against TCU that lifted the Cyclones to the win on the road. His punt return average leads all qualified Big 12 players by more than 12 yards. Flora also averaged 21.4 yards on eight kick returns.
Third-team honors went to offensive lineman Tyler Miller, defensive back Marcus Neal, and defensive lineman Domonique Orange.
ISU’s honorable mention selections are: Abu Sama III (RB), Brett Eskildsen (WR), Chase Sowell (WR/Offensive Newcomer of the Year), Jim Bonifas (OL), Trevor Buhr (OL), Caleb Bacon (LB), Kyle Konrardy (Specialist/Special Teams Player of the Year), Tyler Perkins (P).
