AMES — Joshua Jefferson scored a season-high 23 points, Blake Buchanan had five dunks and 16 points and No. 3 Iowa State beat Houston Christian 89-61 on Monday night at Hilton Coliseum.

The Cyclones (13-0) led by as many as 14 points in the first half and 31 in the second.

Jefferson’s 23-point performance represented his fifth 20-point game this season. Buchanan added 11 rebounds to make his night a double-double.

Milan Momcilovic added 13 points for Iowa State. Killyan Toure had 11. Tamin Lipsey had eight points and eight assists.

It marked Iowa State’s 42nd-straight non-conference win at home, helping the Cyclones to their second-best start in school history. The 2013-2014 ISU squad opened 14-0.

Demari Williams led Houston Christian (5-8) with 19 points. Ryan Bartley and D’Aundre Samuels each had 14.
