Storm get 4, Trojans 2 to girls’ state wrestling

WILLIAMSBURG — The South Hardin-BCLUW girls’ wrestling team qualified four for state and West Marshall earned two spots from Friday’s Class 1A Region 8 tournament at Williamsburg High School.

SH-BCLUW had three first-time qualifiers joining Taya Hollingsworth, who will make her third trip to state to cap her prep career. The Storm senior, ranked second in Class 1A by IAwrestle, finished second in the 155-pound bracket at Saturday’s regional meet.

The Storm were led by junior Ceanna White, who won the 140-pound bracket with a 3-0 day on the mats. White (44-11) had one of her two pins in the finals, where she flattened Williamsburg’s Kimora Owens in 3:19.

Freshman Khloe Neal earned her way to state at 115 with a true second wrestleback win over Nora Stoutner of Washington, pinning her in 3:49. Neal (35-21) was 3-1 with three pins and a finals loss to Alburnett’s Taryn Moore (27-22).

Taya Hollingsworth was pinned in the 155 finals by Williamsburg’s Lilly Ness (34-12), but rebounded to pin Washington’s Colbie Greiner in 29 seconds in the true second match.

Megyn Hollinsworth, a freshman and Taya’s younger sister, qualified at 170 with a 2-1 day. She had two pins on her way to the finals, where she was pinned by Anamosa’s Izzy Taylor (29-9). Hollingsworth (42-8) didn’t need to wrestle back for second place.

SH-BCLUW senior Leila Wedgwood (41-15) reached 100 wins for her career after a 3-2 day in which she lost in the finals and again in the wrestleback round to place third. Kaitlynn Dickes (30-20) suffered the same fate at 190.

West Marshall will be represented at state by a pair of regional champions in 100-pound freshman Kielly Kasal and 190-pound sophomore Reese Buschbom.

Kasal, ranked seventh, improved to 38-9 for the year with three wins by pin. She decked Alburnett’s Josie McGraw in 3:02 in the bracket championship.

Buschbom (36-11) also posted three pins, finishing with a second-period pin of Dickes in the finals.

The Trojans also got a third-place finish from Reagan Buschbom at 235. She rallied from a semifinal loss to reach the wrestleback match, where she was denied state after a pinfall by Madison Fisher of Iowa Falls-Alden.

SH-BCLUW finished second in the final team standings with 165.5 points and West Marshall was third at 130. Williamsburg, with four qualifiers, won the 17-team regional with 188 points.
