July fun through Marshalltown Park & Rec
Parks and Recreation month is celebrated in July and Marshalltown P&R has a fun line-up scheduled.
This July, Marshalltown Parks and Recreation invites residents to celebrate Park and Recreation Month, an annual initiative of the National Recreation and Park Association, recognizing the many ways parks and recreation strengthen communities and improve quality of life.
Throughout the month, Marshalltown Parks and Recreation will host a variety of activities designed for residents of all ages and abilities. Some of the original activities, like Walking Wednesdays and Foodie Friday at the Aquatic Center, will still take place. Some new events planned for July include:
July 4: FREE Swim Day, sponsored by Mitchell Family Funeral Home
July 6: 9 a.m. Monday Mini Muffins with Mayor Mike at MEGA 10 Park
July 11: 9 a.m. Trail Bike Ride beginning at Riverview Park with local cycling enthusiast Gary Gimbel
July 24: 7 p.m. Cool Cinema on the Court – a FREE Friday night movie at the Veterans Memorial Coliseum
July 31: 10 a.m. – Noon Plant Identification Fun with Iowa State University Extension at the Marshall County Grimes Farm and Conservation Center
Marshalltown Parks and Recreation is celebrating Park and Recreation Month by inviting residents to share their experiences, memories and stories about what parks and recreation mean to them.
“Parks and recreation play an important role in creating a healthier, more connected and vibrant community,” said Marshalltown Parks and Recreation Director Kelsie Stafford. “Whether it’s spending time outdoors with family, participating in recreational programs, swimming or enjoying our trails and green spaces, these experiences enhance physical and mental well-being, promote conservation and provide opportunities for everyone to belong. We invite everyone to celebrate the power of parks and recreation with us this July.”
NRPA and Marshalltown Parks and Recreation encourage everyone who supports parks and recreation to share why local park and recreation professionals are important to them on social media using #ThePowerOf.
