Rally Around Downtown debuts Aug. 20 to celebrate the new school year

The Marshalltown Central Business District, in partnership with the Marshalltown Community School District, invites the community to Rally Around Downtown from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Aug. 20 in downtown Marshalltown.

Rally Around Downtown serves as a community-wide celebration of the start of the 2026-27 school year and provides an opportunity for students, families, educators, businesses and community organizations to come together in support of Marshalltown’s youth.

Community members are encouraged to wear their Bobcat gear, show their school spirit and join the celebration. The event will feature performances from several Marshalltown High School groups, helping showcase the talent and energy that make the Bobcat community special.

In addition to live entertainment, the event will include a community resource fair designed to connect families with organizations, programs and services that support student success both inside and outside the classroom.

Organizers are currently seeking participants for the resource fair, including youth sports organizations, clubs, healthcare providers, mental health professionals, community organizations and businesses that serve children and families.

“Rally Around Downtown is an opportunity to celebrate our students while helping families discover the many resources available throughout our community,” said Danielle Lekin, executive director of MCBD. “By bringing schools, businesses, nonprofits and families together in one place, we hope to create a fun and welcoming event that helps everyone start the school year on the right foot.”

Organizations participating in the resource fair are encouraged to provide information, demonstrations, giveaways or practical tips that help families prepare for a successful and healthy school year. The event offers a unique opportunity to connect directly with families while demonstrating the many ways our community supports student achievement and well-being.

Businesses and organizations interested in participating in the resource fair are encouraged to contact MCBD for additional information. Participation opportunities remain available, and organizers hope to feature a diverse range of community resources and family-focused services.

Additional event details, performance schedules and participant announcements will be released as they become available.
