Together We Can Grief Group meets Thursday

Together We Can is holding its Grief Support Group from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Sept. 10 at 8 W. Church St. The group is free to anyone 18 and older experiencing any kind of grief. It's a safe place to deal with the multitude of feelings they may be experiencing. There is no judgment. Everyone experiences grief in a different way. It's comforting being around others experiencing similar feelings. People don't have to grieve alone. Grief is a little bit easier with the support of others. Those that are grieving, are invited to come.

Pachyderm Forum on Data Centers is Friday

The Marshall County Republican Pachyderm Forum will meet at noon on Sept. 11 at Legends American Cafe. The program will be a continuation of the proposed Data Center issues facing Marshalltown and Marshall County voters and elected officials. The progress review will be chaired by Board of Adjustment member Mark Eaton. Forums are open to all interested persons who may arrive after 11 a.m. for informal discussion and lunch if they wish.

MCC blends nature and creativity in two-day ‘Art in the Wild’ event

Marshalltown Community College will host "Art in the Wild," a free two-day outdoor and cultural event on Sept. 24 and Sept. 25. The schedule includes live wood sculpture carving, a poetry workshop with Iowa’s Poet Laureate, local food trucks and an art gallery exhibit. Iowa State Fair chainsaw artist Clint Henik, owner of Carve R Way, will perform live carving demonstrations outside the Student Activity Center from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. both days. Veterans Affairs looking for drivers

Marshall County Veteran Affairs needs the community’s help. Find out more about its volunteer program to drive local veterans to medical appointments in Des Moines, Ames and Iowa City. Come to the Marshall County Veteran Affairs Annex Building at 9:30 a.m. on Sept. 14 at 101 E. Main St., Marshalltown to find out more information. The VA provides a 2024 Chrysler Pacifica passenger van for its veterans, but drivers are needed. It is requested that a driver pick up one or two rides per month. Young Artist Studio is coming

Grades 3 through 12 are invited to join local artists to learn and sharpen art skills from 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Sept. 16, Oct. 21 and Nov. 18 at Grimes Farm Nature Center, 2349 233rd St., Marshalltown. Each session will focus on an element of art or type of media, a project to work on and studio time to be creative and work on other projects. Participants can sign up for all or one session.
