Keys to dementia prevention program starts Sept. 15 at the Y

Dementia is a devastating condition that wreaks havoc on a person’s physical, mental, emotional, social and financial well-being. There is no cure for dementia — but by making simple lifestyle changes, people can reduce the risk of dementia by up to 70 percent. The Marshalltown YMCA-YWCA is offering a program Keys to Dementia Prevention starting Sept. 15. In this 10-week, evidence-based program participants will learn how to eat well, exercise, get the sleep they need, stay mentally sharp and build social relationships for better overall health. Next meeting of The Write Club is Sept. 12

Since June 2025, The Write Club, a group for established and aspiring writers, teens through adult, has met monthly for a mix of discussion, sharing writing samples, camaraderie and a lecture on a particular writing topic. Made possible through funding from the Artist Innovation Grant awarded by the Arts & Culture Alliance, the group is led and organized by journalist/author Sara Jordan-Heintz.
