Annual state auction is open online through Sept. 12

DES MOINES — The Iowa Department of Natural Resources annual auction is currently underway and will be open through Sept. 12. The Iowa DNR has been tasked for decades to represent the State of Iowa to manage the annual sale of confiscated long guns (rifles, shotguns, bows) to the public who have the state or federally required permits to acquire. The majority of the firearms in this sale were confiscated by law enforcement agencies from around the state, with only five percent coming from cases involving the Iowa DNR. The Marshalltown Garden Club is featuring 1009 E. Southridge Road as its September Yard of the Month. This is the home of Shelley Battles who has lived here since late July 2025. Previously she lived for 20 years on South Fifth Street and before then in Baxter where she had a huge yard. Her new home was a blank canvas, and she enlisted the local services of S&S Landscaping. Heart of Iowa Kennel Club annual dog shows are Sept. 12-13

The Heart of Iowa Kennel Club will hold two American Kennel Club All-Breed and Obedience shows on Sept. 12 & 13 at the Central Iowa Fairgrounds in Marshalltown. According to Show Chair, Shelley Barron, “Although the Westminster Dog Show or the National Dog Show which is televised on Thanksgiving are considerably larger, our shows follow the same procedures and American Kennel Club rules and guidelines.
