Library to host ‘What Do We Stand For?’ on Sept. 3

Marshalltown Public Library is hosting philosopher Dr. Scott Samuelson for a lively discussion entitled “What Do We Stand For?” at 5:30 p.m. on Sept. 3 in the library’s community room. Samuelson will explore the major philosophical ideas that inspired the founding of the United States: freedom, rights, ideals, purpose of a republic and civic engagement. IRS reminder: Information return e-file system transitioning to a new platform

WASHINGTON — The Internal Revenue Service recently reminded information return filers who currently use the Filing Information Returns Electronically system to prepare now for the system’s retirement and transition to the Information Returns Intake System before the 2027 filing season. After the November maintenance window, filers will no longer be able to submit information returns through FIRE. Road Closure

The Marshall County Road Department has closed a portion of 250th Street from Parker Avenue to Highway 14 to thru traffic for the purpose of replacing a culvert. The road closed at 7 a.m. on Aug. 25 and will remain closed until approximately 4 p.m. on Sept. 17. There is no posted detour route. For more information contact the Road Department at 641-754-6343.
