• A Sunday fundraiser screening of “Gone With the Wind” at the Iowa Theater raised $1,200 to go towards the Envision Cedar Bridge rebuild efforts. The event was well attended with 88 people showing up to watch the iconic film that hadn’t been shown at the Iowa Theater since the 1940s. Jane Martens, former Iowa Theater ticket booth operator from the theater’s heyday recalled to the attendees when the Iowa first showed the film. — Winterset Madisonian

Cedar Rapids

• Mount Mercy University’s Board of Trustees has announced a four percent increase in the tuition and room and board rates for the 2018-19 school year. In addition, a new technology fee will be implemented starting next fall. Last year tuition and room and board rates were raised three percent. For a traditional full-time student, the total tuition, fees and room and board next year will be $41,532. — Mount Mercy Times

Mount Vernon

• Mount Vernon is ready to take on the debt to build a community center. The City of Mount Vernon has proposed borrowing $5.5 million in general obligation bonds to finance most of the building of a new community/recreation center and parking. The bonds will be paid off largely through Tax Increment Financing dollars. The city council will hold a public meeting at 6:30 p.m. on Nov. 20 on the proposed borrowing during the regularly scheduled city council meeting. — Sun, Mount Vernon-Lisbon

Van Buren County

• The Great Prairie Area Education Agency approved the petition for reorganization from Van Buren and Harmony Community School district residents, setting in motion a vote that will take place Feb. 6, 2018. The vote to reorganize needs a majority vote in each district to pass. The AEA also denied a request from 85 property owners asking that board to allow them to “opt out” of boundary of the new district, with nearly all wanting to be included in the Central Lee district. — Van Buren County Register
