MCC women win second-straight, stop LPTC

The Marshalltown Community College women’s basketball team rolled to a second-straight win on Thursday, taking down Little Priest Tribal College 67-57.

The Tigers (2-1) held a nine-point lead at halftime and never let up against the Warriors (0-3). Alyssa Roth was effective all night for MCC, recording 25 points on 7-for-13 field goals and 11-for-15 from the free-throw line. Claudia Morente and Loralei Siliga each also scored in the double digits, with Morente dropping in 10 points and Siliga recording her second-straight double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds.

Tigers head coach Steve Garber said it was a great defensive effort that led to the team’s second win in a row.

“We stayed solid on the defensive end in the first half which gave us a comfortable lead going into half,” Garber said. “I thought we let up and Little Priest came out and played with more aggression to score in the second half. We did not respond very well and as a result and struggled offensively in the second half. We also have to learn to adjust to officiating as our fouls tallied up too fast giving them free throw opportunities that don’t need to happen.”

MCC plays its third game at home on Saturday when it hosts Jefferson College at the Student Activity Center at 5 p.m.
