Salad luncheon begins Ave Maria Club year

The Ave Maria Study Club held its first meeting for 2026-27 on Sept. 11 at The Madonna Room in the Faith Formation Building on the St. Henry Campus. Co-President Lois Polt welcomed 13 members and one guest. Polt pointed out that it is the 25th anniversary of that tragic day, Sept. 11, 2001. We remembered the day by beginning the meeting by reciting the Pledge of Allegiance. The occasion was celebrated with red, white and blue table decorations and included American Flags. Daylily hybridizing program this Saturday

Ryan Whisney, of Council Bluffs, will be the speaker at the Central Iowa daylily Society meeting this Saturday. Whisney began hybridizing daylilies about 15 years ago. Before that he had grown flowers of many kinds with his parents and grandparents on the family farm, but it's when he moved to Omaha to work for the Henry Doorly Zoo that he discovered daylilies. When he saw a line of daylilies that were slated to be torn up and thrown away, he noticed on the top were a couple small seed pods. Beta Sigma Phi opens its new year

Beta Sigma Phi, Sigma Master Chapter President Dorothy Perry opened the first meeting of the new year thanking Jan Keller for hosting. Seven members were present, one guest and two absent. Secretary Alice Nicholson read the minutes of the last May meeting, and Barb Noid gave the Treasurer's report announcing that $20 membership is due. Health reports were given with one recovering from knee surgery, and another treating on dialysis. Others are under doctor's care and gaining strength.
