Chapter MJ Celebrates 50 Years

Members of PEO Chapter MJ gathered for a social meeting on Monday, August 16 at 7:00 p.m. at the Gallery Garden on Main in downtown Marshalltown. Their purpose was to celebrate 50 years of becoming a chapter of PEO. Many memories were shared by fellow Chapter MJ sisters. Barb Runneals, one of the original 14 Charter Members, told of her part in forming the new chapter. She also reminisced about the other Charter Member sisters and where they are now. Marshalltown VFW to host meal

Marshalltown. Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 839 reviewed and acted on the program of activities during Tuesday’s August meeting, including plans for hosting another public fundraiser tenderloin meal on Friday, Aug. 27. Senior Vice Commander Pete Dumer presided over the session in the absence of Commander Rob Shepherd. Richard (Rick) Johnson, a former commander of this Harry C. Harter Post who last month was awarded a Merit Badge in recognition of his continuous dedication and leadership in the post, led planning for coming events. American Legion Auxiliary hosts meeting

The members of the Auxiliary and their guests began the evening with a salad and dessert supper in the lower level of the American Legion Post 46 on August 10, 2021, at 6 pm. New members and the Girls State attendees with their family were special guests. Before the meeting the three girls chosen to attend the Annual Girls State gave a summary of their 4 days of meetings via zoom. Chapter MJ meets in person

ld in person at the Redeemer Lutheran Church. This was the first time since the pandemic began that the chapter met in person. There were 16 members present. Reports were given on the International Peace Project, Star Scholarship and Cottey College. President Rheba Yost reviewed proposed amendments to be voted upon at the September International PEO Convention. Past President Daryl Kelehan told of her upcoming move out-of-state. Laurel Auxiliary hears about bakeless sale

The Harold McBroom Laurel American Legion Auxiliary #635 met at the Legion home on July 21 with six members present. LaDonna Runner called the meeting to order. After the opening prayer, the members recited the Pledge of Allegiance and stood in silence for P.O.W.s, M.I.A.s and deceased veterans. They recited the Preamble to the Constitution of the American Legion Auxiliary. Minutes of the last meeting were read and approved. The treasurer’s report was read and accepted for audit.
