Leadership change needed, Vote Joel Oliva

I have worked with our elected officials at Marshall County for 14 years and call many of them my friends. That is why writing this is one of the most difficult things I have done. When service to the people is declining, it is the duty of leadership to communicate what is going on, no matter how difficult the conversation. While I have my allegiances to conservative principles and values, I cannot turn a “Republican blind eye” to the administration of the Auditor/Recorder’s Office. I am endorsing independent candidate Joel Oliva for Marshall County Auditor/Recorder. We have seen ...

Trump shouldn’t be president

When Donald Trump was elected president of the United States in 2016, the Ku Klux Klan held a parade and celebrated his presidency. In the next four years, here in America, the crime wave reached new heights. I don’t believe we want Donald Trump as President of the United States, when it comes to our election, in just two more weeks.

For better election oversight, vote Joel Oliva

Voting should be easy, and polling locations should be consistent to reduce confusion for voters. Reported in the Times-Republican on April 25, the 3rd Ward voting location was changed to Our Savior Lutheran Church. 3rd Ward voters have historically known to vote at the MACC (formerly known as the Fisher Community Center). Marshall County Auditor Nan Benson was quoted saying “a lot of politics” is involved with the change. Proud to be a liberal woman

Liberalism is the reason Women: • Can Vote • Can work outside the home • Can file for divorce if & when needed • Can have a credit card • Can get a driver’s license • Can buy a home or a car • Can be pregnant and not be fired • We are not considered property • A husband can go to jail for hurting us So called Socialism is not “free stuff” as some people try and make it out to be. It is getting what we have paid into our taxes instead of giving it away to corporate subsidies! Reasons I am not a Republican • I don’t disparage women, ...

Vote for Nan Benson

Virtually every Marshall County citizen living in townships and miscellaneous taxing bodies have unknowingly benefited from Nan Benson’s staff initiative. Specifically, Nan has initiated a procedure that for the first time invites township board secretaries and miscellaneous board secretaries in at budget time to assist the mostly volunteer secretaries with budget forms. As a result, the normally time consuming and stressful work is completed efficiently and accurately. Express gratitude and appreciation to Nan Benson with your vote.

Vote yes on Miller bond issue

We have another opportunity to invest in Marshalltown, as a place to work, play and grow. Our school board is seeking passage of a bond issue to Rebuild and Reimagine Miller Middle School. What’s better than investing in our kids and our town? I strongly support the decision to move on this; if not now, when? The reasons to vote YES on November 5 are many. 1. Miller is 99 years old with a classic exterior structure, but inside it is outdated for today’s learning. The old bones of Miller are in fantastic shape and cannot be replaced. 2. 70% of our Miller students live on the ...
