Pray and vote!

For the past year I have been reading a magazine called “Decisions.” I am not a magazine reader as many articles come from unsettled writers who make their living keeping the world stirred up with angry thoughts. In this publication, the authors are conservative and thought provoking. Franklin Graham is the editor, he begins this issue with the encouragement to seriously pray, then Vote! It also includes a note of wisdom by Winston Churchill. “Socialism is the philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy. The inherent virtue of socialism is the equal ...

When God’s people do nothing, evil thrives

Dear Potential Voters of Tama County, I grew up surrounded by politics and moral values — religious beliefs. Two uncles were 30-year Senators, one of each party. They both loved America and made decisions based on the good of the U.S.A. In the past 60+ years, and specifically starting in 1960, we have seen the destruction of America: blood and murders in high places, violence and lawlessness, never ending global wars, numerous earthquakes and destructive weather events, family against family including killing of the little and elderly, liars and theft; behaviors mimicking the days of ...

Thankful for UnityPoint Health — Marshalltown

At various times during the past sixty days, I have needed to use one of the three Marshalltown medical facilities of UnityPoint Health: The Emergency Department, UnityPoint Clinic — Express, and UnityPoint Health Marshalltown Hospital. I admit, at times, I have doubted the credibility of these facilities. I am no longer a doubter; we are fortunate to have these medical facilities available to us in Marshalltown. When I entered the Emergency Department, staff began to swiftly treat me, without compromising my care. In the Express Care Clinic, staff were also efficient, ...

Vote Mike Wolfe for Iowa Senate

Vote for Mike Wolfe for Iowa Senate. I’ve had several opportunities to talk to Mike and hear him speak. I am impressed with his ideas and his ability to communicate them. If you are interested in knowing more about him, watch the video of the LWV forum on Oct. 8 which you can find on the Facebook page of the Leagues of Women Voters of Ames and Story County. Unfortunately, no Republican candidates showed up for this event. The goal of the LWV is to educate voters on candidates and issues and to get every eligible voter to vote. Maybe Republicans will show up to the Marshalltown Chamber ...

Vote Sue Cahill on Nov. 5

Politics in 2024 are messy. At best, the ads we see are disingenuous. At worst, they push false information. Decision-making is easier when candidates have a record we can objectively evaluate. Sue Cahill has a record we can vote on and count on. We have known Sue for 10 years now. We have watched as Sue has worked for a better Marshalltown. First as a public educator, and then as a city councilor, Sue has brought common sense approaches to building community success. Sue supports public safety and is pro-law enforcement. As a city councilor, Sue supported funding the Marshalltown ...

Give our teachers the tools they need

I own an embarrassment of tools. Kim and I have done quite a bit of remodeling over the years (it’s my excuse to buy ANOTHER tool). A couple of months back, I had the opportunity to tour Miller Middle School, and was shocked at the condition of the building. Our daughter (Lexi) had attended Miller just 4 years ago. As we went to her student/teacher conferences, we never really looked at the building, who does? The tour showed major water problems, mold, cut up classrooms, very small classrooms, electrical problems and much more. The once stately auditorium had seen better days and ...
