It is disappointing to read in the Times-Republican about the delays from the Marshall County Auditor and Recorder’s Office at completing major tasks. The valuations that are conducted by the County Auditor/Recorder’s Office were delayed several weeks beyond the deadline set in the Iowa code, hampering our local governments to complete their budgets in a timely manner. The current Auditor/Recorder, Nan Benson, admitted on KFJB Radio to the delays and said that parts of the valuations have not been done correctly for a couple of years. Save the Forest Reserve Program

Iowa is overly dependent upon corn and livestock fed with corn. Overproduction of corn is depleting Iowa’s soil, and the chemicals used in its over-production have seriously compromised our water quality. When one looks at what this does to our environment and augments this information with the long term effects of overconsumption of corn fed meat and poultry on our citizenry, it becomes difficult for Congress to defend the subsidy and insurance programs used to prop up our corn producers. I strongly urge taxpayers to get out and vote No on the LOSST (Forever Tax) March 5. The most appalling part of the vote is, if you vote yes, and it passes, this time it will become a Forever Tax because the mayor and his handpicked committee advised the council not to put in a sunset clause. They want this tax to be forever, which is unconscionable. There must be a sunset clause. No tax should be forever.
