Kiwanis Clubs promote Red Barrel Project

contributed photo Members of the Kiwanis clubs recently helped promote the Red Barrel project. Pictured are members Ken Lamb, Rose Wagner, Ann Kent and Peggy Lamb with Fareway store manager Brian Schmith.

The “Noon” and PM Kiwanis clubs were promoting the Red Barrel project during the grand opening festivities at Fareway Meat and Grocery’s new store. P.M. members Ken Lamb, Rose Wagner, Ann Kent and Peggy Lamb have their picture taken with store manager Brian Schmith next to the Red Barrel which was overflowing in just two hours. “Noon” Club President Linda Dodd Smith took the picture and delivered the non-perishable food items to the Emergency Food Box. The Red Barrel story began in Texas and came to the Des Moines area after a Kiwanis member saw it in Houston. The Nebraska-Iowa Kiwanis District then encouraged its clubs to get involved. Both the Red Barrel and Kiwanis gumball machine are located at the store entrance/exit for cus-tomers’ convenience. For more information, go to @MarshalltownKiwanis or @PMKiwanis on Facebook. The clubs thank Fareway and its customers for their contin-ued support.
