P.E.O. Chapter LT visit to Haverhill Oratory

Twelve members of P.E.O. Chapter LT visited the Gothic Byzantine Haverhill Oratory on June 5 with Gary Pusillo, Deacon, as the guide. The church was built in 1902 for $1,288. The beautiful symbolic stained glass windows came from Europe and the pictures on the walls were done by an Italian painter on canvas done on site. He explained the architecture, symbols and statues in the oratory related to the Catholic Church.

President Lisa Koester conducted the meeting that announced the Marshalltown High School senior women Tarryn Bell and Yessenia Alvarez Zamora were recipients of the P.E.O. Chapter LT local scholarships of $500 each.

At noon on June 19, the members will have a salad luncheon picnic at the shelter house at the Grimes Farm.

Gina Ruddock reported on the Iowa P.E.O. Project Sarah Porter Beckwith Friendship Fund that is available to anyone in need of assistance for a one-time $5,000 gift when nominated by a member. She also gave a report as a delegate on the P.E.O. State Chapter Convention held in Des Moines on June 3 & 4 with 380 members attending.

Plans were continued for State P.E.O. officer Official Visit which will be on July 17, 1 p.m. at the Marshalltown Public Library.

The members then enjoyed pie at Perkins following the meeting.
