Liscomb Legion Auxiliary hosts spring meeting

LISCOMB — Liscomb Legion Auxiliary Unit 87 met at 1:30 p.m. on March 7 at the home of Sharon Hatch in Whitten. Five members were present. Hatch opened the meeting and Chaplain Dorothy Sorensen gave the opening prayer followed by a moment of silence for the MIA/POW and deceased veterans. The Pledge of Allegiance and the Auxiliary Preamble were recited. Minutes of the November meeting were read and approved.

Hatch read a thank-you letter from Iowa Veterans Home for a donation to needy veterans for special projects.

Marshall County Spring Conference is April 13 at Whitehill Hall. Registration is at 8:30 a.m., cost is $2. Third District Spring Conference at Meskwaki near Tama is March 30 with a cost of $2.

Candy Wait has received the poppies and will distribute them at the April meeting. Projects include putting up a Memorial Day display at the library and planning to plant flowers at the library, City Hall and Post Office for Spring. May 17, the Unit has to furnish helpers for IVH and two rolls of quarters for BINGO.

Hatch read “How Does Your Garden Grow.”

Next meeting is at 1:30 p.m. on April 11 at the home of Hatch. She will invite the ladies from Eldora to the April meeting. Also invite Stacy Bane to the meeting with a luncheon not a dinner.

The Unit sent out 25 Valentines to the veterans in the area. Vicki Penner made the cards and Bill Lott paid the postage.

Hatch read an article on the Silver Starr from the Legion Magazine. Silver Star is awarded to one in every 250 people in all branches of the military.

Discussion was held on treats to BCLUW Middle School teachers. Cheese and meat tray and crackers for May Teacher Appreciation Week.

Chaplain led the Unit in a prayer. Penner motioned to adjourn.

Sorensen read “The Garden Seed Catalog.”

Member Penner made an Easter basket for each member to take home.
