P.E.O. Chapter LT initiates new member

P.E.O. Chapter LT initiated Ellen Youds on Aug. 7 at the Presbyterian Church. President Lisa Koester presided over the initiation and meeting with 13 members present. Cindy Park, a volunteer member of the Marshalltown Central Business District presented the program Downtown Business Development. This non-profit organization with Director Deb Millizer plans and executes ideas to encourage economy, design and promotion of the downtown area. VFW Auxiliary hosts June meeting

The June general membership meeting of the VFW Auxiliary Post 839 met on June 20 at the post home. The meeting was called to order at 6:30 p.m. by President Liz Polkiewicz followed by the Opening Ceremonies according to ritual. There were 10 members present, seven were officers. Chaplain Donna Mitchem gave the opening prayer. The Pledge of Allegiance was recited led by Patriotic Instructor Kay Bell. The May minutes and General Orders were read by Secretary Theresa Shepherd. P.E.O. Chapter LT visit to Haverhill Oratory

Twelve members of P.E.O. Chapter LT visited the Gothic Byzantine Haverhill Oratory on June 5 with Gary Pusillo, Deacon, as the guide. The church was built in 1902 for $1,288. The beautiful symbolic stained glass windows came from Europe and the pictures on the walls were done by an Italian painter on canvas done on site. He explained the architecture, symbols and statues in the oratory related to the Catholic Church.
