Chapter JU installs new officers

Sixteen members of Chapter JU of the P.E.O. Sisterhood met on March 6 at Journey Church of Marshalltown. The tea committee of Carole Weber and Margaret Johnson served pie following the meeting. President Alix Martin conducted a business meeting which included the election and installation off new officers for the coming year. Conservation program at Spinning Wheel

The Spinning Wheel Chapter of the DAR met Feb. 17 at the Marshalltown Library. Joe Herring, Department of Natural Resources District Forester, gave the program on “Conservation.” He spoke of the DNR Forestry Departments’ mission to help Iowans expand and take care of Iowa’s three million acres of trees and forests and to teach the importance of reforestation of pasture land that had been stripped of its natural forests. Iowa ET preparing for first-ever TTT Golf Tournament

Plans for two major 2023 activities were discussed when Iowa ET, the National TTT Society, met recently at the First Presbyterian Church. Lisa Dougall and Char Smothers are co-chairing the chapter’s first-ever Golf Tournament, June 24, and members signed up to make follow-up calls to sponsors and donors who recently received a mailing informing them of tournament plans. Next month members will sign up for food-related tasks, work on signage, see a draft of a tournament brochure and also a tournament social media page. VFW Auxiliary Post 839 holds February meeting

The February 2023 general membership meeting of the VFW Auxiliary Post 839 met at the post home on Feb. 22. The meeting was called to order at 6:30 p.m. by President Liz Polkiewicz, followed by the opening ceremonies according to the ritual. There were 11 members present, nine of whom were officers. Chaplain Donna Mitchem gave the Opening Prayer. The January minutes and General Orders were read by Secretary Theresa Shepherd. The minutes stood approved, with no corrections made. Women’s brunch event is March 4

P.E.O. Chapter CF is sponsoring a women’s event on March 4 at the Marshalltown Arts and Civic Center. The event is from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and begins with a brunch, followed by a keynote speech by Shelley Goecke. Her speech is entitled “Finding your Fireflies” and focuses on gratitude. There will be gift bags for the attendees, as well as an opportunity to enjoy the art gallery. P.E.O. is a women’s philanthropic organization that supports women in educational endeavors through various projects. Tickets are available for $25, with proceeds going to the P.E.O. projects. The ...
