LISCOMB — Liscomb Legion Auxiliary Unit 87 met on May 10 at the home of Sharon Hatch in Whitten. The group enjoyed a brunch before the 1 p.m. meeting. Five members were present. Pres. Hatch called the meeting to order. Chaplain Dorothy Sorensen gave the opening devotion prayer. A moment of silence for the MIA/POW and deceased veterans was observed. The Marshall County Retired School Personnel Association met May 16 at the Marshalltown Library. A potluck luncheon was enjoyed by all before the performance. Members were entertained by nine students from the Marshalltown High School chorus led by instructor, Amy Ose. The soloists, duets, trio and mixed double quartet sang pieces they had performed at recent contests. The meeting was called to order by Carole Permar, president. There were 24 members present. The Ave Maria Study Club held its May 13 meeting in the Madonna Room at St. Henry Church featuring a May Crowning where a statue of Mary is crowned with a garland or crown of flowers honoring her as “the Queen of May.” There were 13 members and two guests in attendance. Acting President Rose Ann Jero led the meeting. Refreshments followed the May Crowning served by hostesses Thonia Chua, Gerry Best and Betty Pieper.
