Binford Board discusses repair work

On March 12, the Marshalltown Federation of Women’s Clubs Board met at Binford House with 11 members and one guest present. A report from a committee on the evaluation and update of catering agreement was made by Ce Hubbard, Sandy Short and Sheryl Readout. There was also discussion of the repairs needed to the roof, facia, gutters and corbels that will be done soon. Lighting repairs and improvements were also reported. Sigma Master discusses State Convention

Sigma Master Chapter, Beta Sigma Phi met for lunch at El Portal on March 10. President Caralee Hutchens thanked LaVonne Pollard for hosting. Ten members, two guests answered to roll call with the question: “Do you celebrate St. Patrick’s Day?” Five members were marked as absent. All members were given the time to speak about their joys and sorrows as many do observe the “wearing of the green” with brisket or having a green beer. Abigail Frank, the daughter of Jeff and Jen Frank, of Conrad, has been chosen by the Beaman Legion Auxiliary Unit 131 as its Girl State Delegate for 2020. Frank will attend Girls State June 14-19 at Drake University in Des Moines. Frank is a Junior at BCLUW Schools and is involved in pep band, ...

ISU Extension and Outreach at Rotary

Dr. John Lawrence, vice president for ISU Extension, visited the Marshalltown Rotary luncheon meeting on March 10 to update the club on some of the outreach activities his team is involved in. There are plenty of good things going on both statewide and within Marshall County when it comes it ISU Extension. Regional Education Director Rich Wrage and Marshall County Director Amy Pieper were on hand to lend a more local flavor. Marshall County celebrated its centennial extension year in 2017. Citizen of the Year Roast details announced

The Optimist Club of Marshalltown has announced the details of the 2020 Citizen of the Year Roast to honor Margaret Gervich. The Roast event will be held on April 2 at Elmwood Country Club. Social hour will begin at 5:30 p.m. with a cash bar, the chicken breast/Scottish salmon dinner at 6:30 p.m. and the Roast program at 7:30 p.m. Gervich has selected her husband, Doug, to serve as the Master of Ceremonies for the program.
