David A. Finney Taylor Jr. made an initial appearance on a possession of marijuana-first offense charge. He will represent himself. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m. on March 25. Finney Taylor was released on his promise to appear. A substance abuse evaluation was ordered with the results submitted within 60 days.

Thon Jacob Maker made an initial appearance on a driving while revoked charge, a no valid driver’s license charge, a no insurance charge, an open container charge, a driving under suspension charge, a speeding charge and a registration violation charge. The public defender’s office is appointed as counsel. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m. on March 25. Maker was released on his promise to appear following his being photographed and fingerprinted in connection with this case.

Michael Dwayne Gerrish made an initial appearance on a driving while barred charge, a driving under suspension charge, a operation without registration charge, a no insurance charge and a fraudulent use of registration charge. The public defender’s office is appointed as counsel. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m. on March 25. Gerrish was released on his promise to appear.

Robert J. Dalton made an initial appearance on a possession of drug paraphernalia charge. He pleaded guilty and the fine is $65 with a $22.75 surcharge, a $125 law enforcement initiative surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $272.75, due within 30 days.

Vicente Hernandez Duran made an initial appearance on a unlawful passing of a school bus charge. A pre-trial conference is scheduled at 9 a.m. on April 6 in Magistrate Court.

Sondra R. Wanatee made an initial appearance on a theft-fifth degree charge. A pre-trial conference is scheduled at 9 a.m. on April 6 in Magistrate Court. Her bond will continue as posted until the conclusion of this case.

Accidents

On Thursday, a car driven by a 16-year-old female from Conrad was attempting to pull into a parking spot at the Marshalltown Learning Academy when it collided with a legally parked Dodge Charger. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Conrad car was estimated at $500 while the Dodge Charger received an estimated $1,200 in damage.

On March 1, a car driven by Samantha Ann Howell, of Albion, was northbound in the inside lane in the 300 block of South Third Avenue when a non-contact vehicle in front decreased speed and she took evasive action swerving toward the outside lane and sideswiping the rear driver’s side quarter panel on a pickup driven by Michael Dean Nablo, of Marshalltown. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Howell car was estimated at $5,000 while the Nablo pickup received an estimated $2,500 in damage.
