Court — Friday

• Lance Matthew Schaum made an initial appearance on a voluntary absence from custody charge. The public defender’s office is appointed as counsel. Bond is set at $5,000 cash.

• Sean Patrick Woodard made an initial appearance on a child endangerment charge and a domestic abuse assault charge. Jeff Hazen is appointed as counsel. The preliminary hearing is scheduled for 1 p.m. on Nov. 30. Bond is set at $4,000 cash or surety. A no-contact order has been issued for the protected party.

• Tanner James Smith made an initial appearance on a driving under suspension charge. A pre-trial conference is scheduled for 9:30 a.m. on Dec. 9 in Magistrate Court.

• Juan Ruiz Jr. made an initial appearance on a leaving the scene of an accident charge and a failure to stop in the assured, clear distance charge. Ruiz pleaded guilty to both charges. On the leaving the scene charge the fine is $135 with a $20.25 surcharge and $55 in court costs for a total of $210.25. The fine on the failure to stop charge is $105 with a $15.75 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $180.75. All payments are due within 30 days.

• Victoria Dawn Estrada made an initial appearance on a driving under suspension charge. Estrada pleaded guilty and the fine is $250 with a $37.50 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $347.50 due within 30 days.

• Manuel Vargas Rosas made an initial appearance on a leaving the scene of an accident charge and a driving under suspension charge. On the driving under suspension a pre-trial conference is scheduled for 9:30 a.m. on Dec. 23 in Magistrate Court. The fine on the leaving the scene is $135 with a $20.25 surcharge and $55 in court costs for a total of $210.25, due within 30 days.

• Cody Dewayne Peretto made an initial appearance on a theft-first degree charge, a theft-second degree charge, an eluding charge, a operating while under the influence charge, a drug or participate in a felony charge, a reckless driving charge and a failure to obey a traffic control device charge. Peretto pleaded guilty to the failure to obey a traffic control device and the fine is $135 with a $20.25 surcharge and $55 in court costs for a total of $210.25, due within 30 days. On all the other charges the preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m. on Nov. 30. The public defender’s office is appointed as counsel. The bond is set at $30,000 cash only.

• Jordan Levi Foreman made an initial appearance on a possession of drug paraphernalia charge. Foreman pleaded guilty and the fine is $105 with a $15.75 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $180.75, due within 30 days.

• The Marshalltown Fire Department responded to a smoke detector activation-no fire-unintentional at 1013 E. South St., two dispatched/canceled en route to 501 N. Center St. and 809 N. Third Ave., detector activation-no fire-unintentional at 2500 S. Center St., an electrical wiring/equipmen equipmentat 909 S.
