United Bank & Trust appoints Thomas as director

Curt Hoff, president of United Bank & Trust announced the appointment of Senior Vice President, Robert Thomas to the bank’s board of directors. Thomas has over 35 years of banking experience in lending, operations and bank management and is currently the bank’s Senior Loan Officer. “This experience positions Robert to be a key risk-monitoring member of the United Bank & Trust board,” said Hoff. “He has demonstrated sound judgment and we value his strategic mindset and core values.”

Active in the community, Thomas has served on committees or boards of East Marshall School District, Marshalltown Area Chamber of Commerce, RAGBRAI, Youth & Shelter Services, Kiwanis, Oktemberfest and Iowa Valley Leadership steering committee. Current roles include United Way of Marshall County board member and East Marshall Facilities and Vocational Advisory committee member.

Thomas joins other board members; Tom Pohlman, CEO Ames National Corporation; Curt Hoff, president United Bank & Trust; Kathy Baker, retired United Bank & Trust; Kevin Swartz, CEO Wolfe Clinic; John Wise, retired Ken Wise Buick-GMC-Honda; Keith Brown, owner Kapaun & Brown and Larry Raymon, owner Raymon Enterprises.

Thomas and his wife, Julie are long time Marshalltown residents and have two children.

Heinrichs join Animal Clinic – The Vet

The veterinarians and staff of Animal Clinic – The Vet announce that Dr. Lindsey Heinrichs has joined the practice and began seeing patients on June 5. “We are excited to welcome Dr. Heinrichs to our clinic,” said Dr. Dennis Drager. “She has worked with us throughout her education and we are very pleased she chose to return to our community and join our team.”

Heinrichs is a Marshalltown native. She graduated from Marshalltown High School in 2007. She went to Kirkwood Community College and earned her AAS as a Veterinary Technician. She entered Iowa State University in 2009 and received her BS in Animal Science in 2013 before entering in the Doctorate program. Heinrichs graduated in May of 2017 with her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine and is also certified in Acupuncture.

Two area funeral homes receive Award of Excellence

WEST DES MOINES — Out of 425 funeral homes in the state of Iowa, 19 were chosen to receive the Award of Excellence in Funeral Service at the 137th Annual Iowa Funeral Directors Association Convention held May 16-18 at the Prairie Meadows Hotel & Conference Center in Altoona. Of those 19, Marshalltown’s Anderson Funeral Homes and Mitchell Family Funeral Home of Marshalltown were two of the recipients.

Anderson Funeral Homes, which has been serving Marshalltown and the surrounding communities since 1881 and is being honored for the fourth year being recognized by peers for this achievement.

Mitchell Family Funeral Home, which has been serving Marshalltown and the surrounding communities for 12 years, has been recognized by peers for this achievement for the ninth year.

To qualify, a funeral home must excel in four of five areas: presentation of public information, active membership in the state association, sponsorship of community events or services, professional development and personal development.

Adams named Chief Medical Officer at UPH-M

Dr. Russell Adams, MD, has been named Chief Medical Officer of UnityPoint Health – Marshalltown effective immediately.

In this role, Adams will be responsible for patient safety and overseeing programs and strategies designed to promote and improve quality, while reducing the cost of care delivered.

“We are very excited to have Dr. Adams as a part of our team,” said Dustin Wright, president of UnityPoint Health – Marshalltown. “Dr. Adams brings extensive experience to this role from both a clinical and leadership perspective. His oversight will support effective and productive relationships and help assure that the hospital’s strategic planning, technology investments and medical policies work to support quality, patient care.”

Adams, a graduate of the University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine, began his career as an internal medicine physician where he worked in both an inpatient and outpatient capacity. In 2003, Adams was involved with the creation of Allen Hospital’s hospitalist program and continued to provide inpatient and outpatient services. In 2011, he became a full-time hospitalist and Medical Director of the Hospitalist Service at Allen Hospital. In 2014, Adams was promoted to Medical Director of Operations. He has also been appointed to many committees throughout his career, including the: Credentials Committee, Medical Executive Committee, Performance Improvement Committee, UnityPoint Clinic Physician Governance Committee and UnityPoint Clinic Regional Physician Committee.

Capt. Jones graduates FBI National Academy

On June 7, Capt. Christopher Jones was one of more than 220 law enforcement leaders who graduated from the FBI National Academy in Quantico, Va. The 268th Session of the FBI National Academy consisted of men and women from throughout the United States. Also included in the class were members of law enforcement agencies from 23 countries.

Internationally known for its academic excellence, the FBI National Academy offers advanced investigative, leadership and fitness training to carefully selected officers with proven records as professionals within their agencies. The application and selection process for attendance at the National Academy is rigorous. Acceptance into this program is not guaranteed and is very difficult to secure.

Once in the program, attendees are challenged academically and physically over the course of 10 weeks. Upon graduation, attendees return to their agencies with an elite skill set and perspective which will enhance the law enforcement services provided by their home agencies. Training for the program is provided by the FBI instructional staff, FBI Special Agents and other staff members holding advanced degrees, many of whom are recognized internationally in their fields of expertise.

Chief of Police Michael W. Tupper said, “We are very proud of Captain Jones and this great accomplishment. The FBI National Academy is a very prestigious law enforcement training opportunity. We congratulate Captain Jones on his graduation. We are fortunate to have Captain Jones serving in our community and we are looking forward to having him back home.”
