Fisher to seek re-election

GARWIN – State Rep. Dean Fisher, R-Garwin, has announced he will seek re-election to the Iowa House in 2016 to represent District 72 for a third term. Fisher, first elected in 2012, represents all of Tama County and portions of Marshall and Black Hawk counties.

“It’s an honor to serve the people of District 72 and I will continue to be a strong advocate for our communities, lower government spending and job creation,” Fisher said in a statement.

During his tenure in the House, Dean said he has worked to reduce Iowans’ taxes, rein in out-of-control government spending while funding Iowans’ priorities, and strengthening Iowa’s economic climate.

“I have spent the past three years working to protect Iowans’ pocketbooks against those in Des Moines who have an insatiable appetite for spending. I believe it’s Iowans’ money first, not the government’s and I will do what I can to leave more of it back where it belongs, in the hands of the hardworking taxpayers,” he said. “We must create a business-friendly environment that will attract new industries and jobs to our state. It’s important to give small businesses and entrepreneurs, the job creators of our state, the tools they need to succeed.”

Dean is a graduate of South Tama High School and received his bachelor’s degree in electronics engineering technology from DeVry Institute of Technology in Chicago. After a career in the electronics industry, Dean returned to the family farm in 2004, joining his brother in managing the family’s heritage farm.

Dean serves as the vice chairman of the Natural Resources Committee in the Iowa House, and also sits on the Appropriations and Public Safety committees, as well as the education budget subcommittee.

The filing period for state office is from Feb. 29 through March 18.

Starting at $4.38/week.
