Marshalltown Water Works CEO passes away

‘A sad day’

Marshalltown Water Works Chief Executive Officer Steve Sincox, 48, died Monday at Iowa Methodist Medical Center Des Moines.

Sincox, an Ottumwa native, had been hired by MWW in 1995, and became CEO in December 2008, said Pat Willey of MWW.

Sincox succeeded long-time CEO Leon Lamer, who retired.

“Prior to becoming CEO Steve was Director of Distribution,” Willey said. “He was Leon’s right-hand man.”

Two MWW board members who worked closely with Sincox were saddened, and extremely complimentary of his business acumen and management style.

“Steve was a joy to work with,” said Laura Eilers of Marshalltown, a board member since 2012. “He was a tremendous asset to the board. We could always count on him to get us information we needed to make decisions.”

Long-time board member Ken Vinson spoke highly of Sincox.

“To sum it up, he was excellent to work with,” said Vinson, who has served many years as a volunteer board member. “He was respectful of his staff, the board, his customers, everyone. He was extremely knowledgeable and professional. He had a tough act to follow in Lamer, who was an excellent general manager and CEO. Steve filled those shoes well. He was a pleasure to work with, well prepared for all of our board meetings. It was a sad day when we lost him.”

Funeral services for Sincox will be 2 p.m. Saturday at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown. Visitation will be 12 noon. prior to the service. Memorials may be sent to the family for designation at a later time. For more information or to send a condolence, please visit mitchellfh.com or 641-844-1234.
