Post card sent to Marshalltown Schools update alumni is legitimate

Marshalltown Schools officials are working to update the district’s alumni directory for the high school, an effort that includes sending out post cards, emails or phone calls.

The post cards include information about the district’s effort to update alumni files and offers a toll-free number to call to verify data. Superintendent Theron Schutte’s signature is marked at the bottom of the cards.

The work is being done in partnership with Dallas-based Publishing Concepts LP (PCI), a company that works with institutions to engage alumni and fundraise.

“We’re updating the alumni directory and it’s through the superintendent’s office,” said district Communications Director Andrew Potter. “We’ve posted that on our Facebook page and let people know that it is a legitimate company.”

In response to some recipients’ confusion about the messages regarding to alumni directory update, Potter said the district sent out a statement explaining the situation. That statement reads:

“Marshalltown Schools is partnering with PCI to update our alumni directory for Marshalltown High School. You might be getting information via email, postcards and/or phone calls to help us with this update.

There is no obligation to provide information or to purchase the alumni directory. This will be helpful to the district as we update our records. Thank you.”

According to the contact between the district and PCI, there are about 27,000 school alumni.
