On Sunday morning at 1:39 a.m., the Marshalltown Fire Department (MFD) responded with the Marshalltown Police Department (MPD) and UnityPoint EMS to a house fire reported at 4 N. 12th Ave.

While the responders were en route, the Marshall County 911 call center reported that fire and smoke were showing. Upon arrival, fire crews found a single-story residential structure with considerable fire showing at the rear of the building, and neighbors said they believed no one was home.

MFD crews attacked and extinguished the fire and found no one inside the building. Crews spent considerable time overhauling the structure looking for hidden fire, and the property at a neighboring address was also damaged. No injuries were reported.

The damage is estimated at $24,000 on the house and $4,000 to the adjoining property. Updates will be issued as more is learned.
