McFarland hosts open house for new clinic
T-R PHOTO BY LANA BRADSTREAM — Deb Wollam, executive director of McFarland Clinic, talks with attendees at the open house of the new facility on Merle Hibbs Boulevard. Since the new clinic opened in June, Wollam said business has been going well. Staff and patients love the new facility, complete with numerous artwork on the walls featuring local photographers.
The McFarland Clinic in Marshalltown held an open house on Sunday for the public.
Even though the new facility has been open since June, Executive Director Deb Wollam said the open house was held to give everyone a chance to see the space. She was happy with the turnout.
“With the weather today, I was a little worried. I thought maybe we wouldn’t have quite as great of a turnout, but it’s been really steady and not super crowded,” she said.
Besides, having an open house is something McFarland does with new buildings. Wollam could remember the open house 25 years ago at the previous downtown location.
“When you come as a patient, you can see the area you are going to,” she said. “This allows people to walk through the building and see areas they might not see if they are just coming for a regular appointment.”
The event also served to make people more aware of services they might not have been aware of.
“We want people to know if you need oncology services, we have that,” Wollam said. “If you need an MRI, we have that. And it allows us to share our joy. We are so happy to be here.”
Since the clinic officially opened, Wollam said business has gone very well. There have been no issues with patients not being able to find the new facility.
“It’s just educating people about the new space,” she said. “Nobody knows where they’re going that first time since it’s different. A lot of people have come in the first five weeks. It’s been really good. I think the staff have been enjoying it. We love all the light and all of our beautiful artwork that is a result of the photo contest with the Arts & Culture Alliance.”
