Public encouraged to share thoughts, ideas, priorities for Marshalltown at upcoming roundtable

Residents will get a chance to make their voices heard on the next comprehensive plan for the city, Reimagine Marshalltown.

On Tuesday, a Community Roundtable event will be held at the Veterans Memorial Coliseum, bringing together the planning team with all who wish to attend — residents and business owners. City Administrator Carol Webb said a comprehensive plan is a long-range, strategic plan which outlines a community’s vision for growth, development and quality of life.

“It’s a guiding framework for land use, infrastructure, housing, transportation, economic development, parks, sustainability and other community priorities,” she said.

The Community Roundtable, to which all city staff and elected officials have been invited, will serve as a kickoff for an update of the city’s comprehensive plan.

“The roundtable is to get input prior to drafting the plan,” Webb said. “We hope to have it completed by July 2026.”

She said there will be a short presentation followed by opportunities for the public to provide their thoughts on the Reimagine Marshalltown plan. Webb hopes everyone will be able to attend, but added that realistically, it would be great to have more than 200 in attendance.

Attendees will learn about the planning process and have an opportunity to voice their ideas and priorities for Marshalltown. Webb shared some of her priorities and ideas for the community, such as quality infill and redevelopment opportunities, more housing for all income levels, identifying neighborhood revitalization opportunities and highlighting natural asset projects like the Linn Creek District.

“Marshalltown is a great community, and we want to be good stewards of its future,” she said.

The Community Roundtable will not be the only opportunity for Marshalltonians to weigh in. The city has also scheduled smaller focus group meetings to gather additional information. Webb added that city officials will also attend local events and gatherings to collect information, and residents can provide their input on the project website, reimaginemarshalltown.com.

“We want to get input from everyone,” she said.

Serving on the planning team are representatives from key stakeholder groups, she said – herself, Brad Comstock, Carol Hibbs, Amber Danielson, Deb Wollam, Councilman Gary Thompson, Heidi Dalal, Erin Carpenter, Heidi Hogan, Jon Boston, John Hall, Megan Schott, Clayton Ender, Deb Millizer, Theron Schutte and Robert Maharry.

“Please come to the event and if you can’t attend, please take advantage of other opportunities to provide your input and perspective on the future of Marshalltown,” Webb said.
