Thank you to these heroes

At about 7:45 a.m. July 14, a woman called 9-1-1 and Marshalltown Police Officer Vern Jefferson came to the southeast pond on Southridge Road. He arrived, put on his gloves and he and the woman rescued a young goose in the water. The goose had fishing line around his wing and throat. Officer Jefferson cut the fishing line and the woman helped to hold the goose with the animal’s parents pecking and attacking the officer until they could let the goose swim away. The goose had a cut on its wing. The woman and Officer Jefferson were heroes that day. Another example of the work our officers in blue do. Whoever fishes at this pond, please do not leave fishing line laying around.
