Letter to the Marshalltown Public Library Board of Trustees

According to MPL policy, this Statement of Concern is to go to you and the agenda for the March 19, 2024, MPL board meeting. You are receiving it directly because the director rejects them. This will also be sent to the Letters to the Editor forum in the Times Republican and posted on the FB City Council watch page. The exposure will provide you with ample opportunity to prove to patrons that you value their concern for the MPL. Make the most of it because your condescending reputation has spread far beyond this area and has been slipping for 17 months.

Incidentally, the requested materials are balanced with USA Today, The NRA: The Unauthorized History, Wired, Rolling Stone, and others on the shelves. This Statement is submitted in good faith and in the hope that you will read the following points of compromise, accept them, or negotiate changes at the March 19 meeting or before.

1. Accept mailed issues of The American Rifleman monthly and The Epoch Times weekly free of charge from generous patrons.

2. Display both periodicals with similar materials on the upper half of shelves.

3. If stolen, note the same and direct patrons to secure storage at the checkout counter as is common practice now.

4. Maintain 4 back issues of each under the tilting shelf.

Most of you know we’ve been diligently and cooperatively working with the MLB for 13 months and hoping a compromise can finally come to fruition.
